Softball Team Gets Off to Tough Start at COD Tourney
The MSJC softball team opened their season over the weekend at the College of the Desert Tournament in Palm Desert playing three ranked teams in four games.
Saturday the Lady Eagles opened the tournament with a close 3-2 loss to fifth ranked Santiago Canyon. MSJC took a first inning lead , but couldn't hold on despite a well pitched game by Jena Chilson who allowed just one earned run in 6 innings of work. MSJC out hit Santiago Canyon 10 to 6 as Nicole Stressling and Maegan Rowley both had two hits in the loss. In Saturday's second game MSJC ran into a hot hitting Compton team and lost 12-6, Stressling again had two hits and Alasia Tana-Torres also added two.
Sunday the Lady Eagles squared off against 6th ranked Sacramento City College and fell 6-2, Chilson had a tough second and third inning in the circle before she settled down to pitch well the rest of the way. Chilson did add two hits and an RBI to help her own cause and Ashley Brown also chipped in with a pair of hits. MSJC finished off their first weekend of the season with 12-0 loss in five innings to 13th ranked College of the Desert. Chilson and Gabby Sanchez managed a hit a piece for the Lady Eagles in that contest.
The Lady Eagles now 0-4 on the season will open their new on campus field, this Wednesday in their 2015 home opener. There will be a First Pitch and dedication ceremony prior to Wednesday's game on the Menifee Campus. Music and free food will start at 11:15 am with the ceremony beginning at 11:45, The Lady Eagles will host the Barstow College Vikings in a noon game immediately following the festivities.
