Softball Team Kicks Off 2017 with Split at Glendale Tourney
The MSJC softball team began their 2017 season over the weekend where they split a pair of games at the Glendale Tournament.
The Lady Eagles had a tough time getting the offense going on Friday in the season opener and fell to Santa Ana College 5-1 in a six inning game. Savanah Ruiz drove in the only MSJC run of the contest, as she went 2 for 2 with a double. Hannah Morton took the loss in the circle for the Eagle.
MSJC responded on Saturday however as they bounced back to defeat Oxnard 5-3 in a five inning contest. Alisa Erl picked up the pitching victory as she went the distance allowing just one earned run and three hit while striking out four. Erl gave up three runs in the first, but settled in to shut down the Condors the rest of the way. Ruiz once again had a strong day at the plate as she drove in a pair of runs with a triple. Jordan Sage and Morton also each drove in a run for MSJC. Klarissa Garcia also added a hit in the victory for the Lady Eagles.
MSJC was scheduled to play two games each day at the tournament, but unsafe playing conditions on the second field limited the Lady Eagles to one game a day. MSJC will return to action on Wednesday February 8th when they travel to Huntington Beach to take on Golden West. First pitch on the 8th is scheduled for 3 pm.
