Softball Team Loses Thriller in Extra Innings

The MSJC softball team rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but then lost in eight 4-3 to San Diego City on Wednesday in Menifee.jacinda2014.jpeg

The Lady Eagles gave up single runs in the second, third, and sixth innings to find themselves down 3-0 headed into their final at bat.  In the bottom of the seventh MSJC's rally was started by a single from Rayna Winters.  Winters eventually stole second and was moved to third on a single from Marissa Morales.  After Morales stole second, MSJC loaded the bases when Alejandra Navarro had a bunt single.  The Lady Eagles first run of the inning came in bizarre fashion as Brenna Drake struck out, but the pitch scooted away from the Knights cather allowing everybody to move up a base.  Then it was pinch hitter Jacinda Stewart who tied the game with a perfectly placed bunt that scored both Morales and Navarro.  Stewart ended the inning stranded on second base and the game was forced into extra innings.

SD City was able to put up an unearned run in the top of the eighth to retake the lead at 4-3.  In the bottom of the eighth MSJC went down in order with three consecutive fly outs to end the game.  Winters finished the game with two of the Lady Eagles 7 hits.  Lauren Partnoff went the distance in the circle for MSJC allowing 8 hits and just two earned runs while striking out two.

The loss dropped MSJC to 14-22 overall and 3-13 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play while the Knights improved to 12-22 and 6-11.

The Lady Eagles will play their final home game of the season on Friday when they host Grossmont at Wheatfield Park in Menifee at 3 pm.
