Softball Team Rallies to Tie Game, Wins in Extra Innings
The MSJC softball team rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning on Friday to tie their game with Grossmont and then won it in the 9th, in a PCAC contest in Menifee.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early as they gave up 2 runs in the top of the first inning, but the game settled into a pitching duel over the next 5 innings with MSJC able to scratch one run across in the bottom of the 6th. The Griffons expanded their 2-1 lead to 4-1 in the top of the 7th, but the Lady Eagles answered back by scoring three in the bottom half to force the game into extra innings. After a scoreless 8th inning, MSJC held Grossmont in the top of the 9th and then pushed the winning run across the plate with one out in the bottom of the inning for the victory.
Ashley Brown, Alyssa Rayls, and Jena Chilson all had 3 hits on the day to lead the Lady Eagles offensive attack. Chilson drove in 3 runs on the day while Jordan Sage and Angie Lopez each had 1 RBI. Chilson went all 9 innings in the circle for MSJC to earn the pitching victory. She gave up just 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 3.
The win pushed the Lady Eagles record on the season to 12-6, they improved to 2-2 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference action while Grossmont fell to 12-5-1 overall and the Griffons are also 2-2 in conference play.
MSJC will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Imperial Valley for a 1 pm game. Saturday the Lady Eagles will travel to Rancho Cucamonga for a pair of games at Chaffey College starting at 10 AM.
