Softball Team Splits a Pair of Games

The MSJC softball team moved to 4-3 on the season Friday as they lost to Citrus, but bounced back to pick up a win over Rio Hondo.summersmith-18.jpg

The Lady Eagles battled Citrus tough through the first 2  1/2 innings, before the Owls were able to put up 3 runs in the bottom of the third and 5 in the bottom of the fourth to pull away for a 10-1 win in Glendora Friday.  Summer Smith led the MSJC offense with two hits and scored the lone Lady Eagles run.  Sierra Yaegle, Nathalie Rocha, and Savanah Ruiz each had one hit a piece in the loss.

MSJC bounced back in their second game of the day as they battled back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Rio Hondo 11-7.  The Lady Eagles finally took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when they pushed across 4 runs and then tacked on two each in the fifth and sixth to seal the victory.  Smith came up big once again for MSJC as she went 3 for 5 at the plate and scored three runs.  Rocha drove in a team high 3 runs while Ruiz, Nathalie Valles, and Arianna Abarca all had 2 RBIs each.  Alissa Erl picked up the pitching victory for MSJC.

The Lady Eagles now 4-3 on the season will return to action on Friday when they host Santa Barbara at 9:30 am in their first of four weekend games at their own tournament.  MSJC will also play Oxnard Friday at 2:30 pm and then on Saturday Santa Monica at noon and Cerro Coso at 5 pm.
