Softball Team Sweeps Santa Monica
The MSJC softball team belted out 36 hits and scored 27 runs on their way to a doubleheader sweep of Santa Monica on Friday as they won 18-8 and 9-1.
In the opener Nicole Stressling had 5 hits and scored three times to help the Lady Eagles to a fast start, as they scored 7 runs in both the top of the 1st and 2nd innings. Maegan Rowley drove in a game high 4 runs and both Ashley Brown and Alasia Tana-Torres had 3 RBIs a piece. Nine different MSJC players scored in the contest and eight players scored at least twice. Sierra Falcon picked up the pitching victory throwing 4 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs.
In game two Jena Chilson was the winning pitcher after throwing 6 innings and allowing just 3 hits and 1 unearned run. Stressling continued her huge day going 4 for 4 with four runs scored. Rowley drove in three more runs and Brown and Chilson each drove in two a piece. Stressling finished the doubleheader going 9 for 9 with 7 runs scored and an RBI.
The victories improved the Lady Eagles to 7-12 overall on the year. MSJC will return to Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play this week with a pair of road games. Wednesday the Lady Eagles travel to Palomar and on Friday they will visit San Diego Mesa. Both games this week are scheduled for 3 pm.
