Softball Team Uses Big Innings to Defeat Imperial
The MSJC softball team broke free from a tight contest on Friday to cruise to an easy 18-3 win over Imperial Valley in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game played at Imperial.
The Lady Eagles and the Arabs were locked in a 3-3 duel through four innings Friday, before MSJC broke through with 5 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take control of the game. In the top of the sixth MSJC blew the game wide open as they scored 10 times to secure the victory. The Lady Eagles had 22 total hits in the game and defensively played error free softball on their way to the win.
Jena Chilson and Jordan Sage, who each pitched three innings a piece, both had 4 hits for MSJC. Chilson hit a pair of doubles and drove in one run, while Sage had a triple and a double while driving in three. Alyssa Rayls went 3 for 5 at the plate and drove in four runs. Amanda Munoa also had a huge game for the Lady Eagles as she went 3 for 4 with a single, double, and triple as well as 4 RBIs.
Sage ended up getting the pitching victory as she went 3 inning allowing just one run on 3 hits.
The Lady Eagles are now 16-12 on the season and 6-5 in PCAC games, while the Arabs dropped to 9-13 and 1-10. MSJC will be back in action on Friday when they play East Los Angeles in a non conference game.
