Softball Team Wins Three Over Busy Weekend
The MSJC softball team won three of five games over a busy weekend, dropping a conference contest, but winning three of four at the Ventura Tournament.
The Lady Eagles started the weekend with a 13-2 loss to Pacific Coast Athletic Conference leading Palomar in a game played Friday in San Marcos. Amanda Escalera had the lone RBI of the game for MSJC while Alyssa Crabb managed the team's only hit.
MSJC bounced back on Saturday with a pair of wins in Ventura, as they defeated Cuesta 6-2 and the host Pirates 7-4. Klarissa Garcia had two RBIs against Cuesta to lead the way. Escalera and Hannah Rivas also drove in a run each in the win while Natalia LeDesma picked up the pitching victory. LeDesman pitched 2 and 1/3 innings while Alissa Erl threw 4 and 2/3 each allowing just one run. The Lady Eagles got a homerun and a pair of RBIs from Amanda Munoa in their win over Ventura. Savanah Ruiz picked up two hits in the victory.
Sunday the Lady Eagles split a pair of games to round out the tournament as they defeated Los Angeles Mission 6-5 and lost to Monterey Peninsula 7-5. In the Mission win four different MSJC players knocked in runs with Ruiz collecting two of the team's five RBIs. Rivas, Munoa, Jordan Sage, and Sierra Yagle all had two hits a piece. The Lady Eagles almost made it a perfect four for four tournament, but Monterey rallied to score 4 times in the top of the 7th to defeat MSJC 7-5. Escalera and Munoa both picked up two RBIs in the loss.
The Lady Eagles are now 11-13 overall on the season, they are 2-6 in the PCAC standings. MSJC's only game this week is on the road at San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday.
