Softball Team Wins Two Dramatic Games Saturday

The MSJC softball team picked up two home victories on Saturday and both came with game winning runs in the bottom of the 7th inning.
The Lady Eagles started the day by defeating Rio Hondo College 6-5.  MSJC came back from an early 4-1 deficit to take a 5-4 lead heading into the 7th inning.  The Roadrunners were able to push the tying run across in the top half of the inning, but MSJC answered with the winning run in the bottom half.  Stephenie Tarango was able to drive home Jena Chilson with the game winning RBI.  Chilson finished the game going 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBIs.  Ashley Brown and Amanda Munoa also had two hits for MSJC.  Jordan Sage went the distance in the circle for the Lady Eagles allowing just 3 earned runs and 6 hits while striking out a school record 11 to earn the victory.

In the second game of the day MSJC once again allowed their opponent to tie the game in the top of the 7th, but then won in their final at bat.  This time it was Antelope Valley who finally scored a run in the top of the 7th to knot the score at 1-1, before pinch runner Tarango scored on an RBI double by Amanda Escalera to give MSJC the victory.  Angie Lopez driven in the only other run of the game back in the bottom of the fourth scoring Sage.  Sage finished the game as the only MSJC player with more than one hit.  Chilson was the winning pitcher in the game as she went 7 strong innings allowing just the one run on 7 hits.

The two victories improved the Lady Eagles record to 10-6 on the year.  MSJC will be back in action this week with a pair of Pacific Coast Athletic Conference home games on the Menifee Campus.  Wednesday MSJC hosts San Diego City and Friday the Lady Eagles will welcome Grossmont.  Both games are set to begin at 3 PM.

Jordan Sage picked up a pitching victory against Rio Hondo and then had 2 hits in MSJC's victory over Antelope Valley on Saturday to help the Lady Eagles softball team improve to 10-6 on the season.
