Lady Eagle Volleyball Can't Pull it Out on Sophomore Night

The MSJC women's volleyball team celebrated Sophomore Night on Wednesday, but couldn't pick up the victory as they fell to visiting Palomar 3-1 in their final conference match of the year.LannieMaffucciTipforPalomar2-17.jpg

Palomar jumped out to a 2-0 lead by winning the first set 25-23 and the second 25-15, before the Lady Eagles found their footing and won the third 25-15.  In the fourth MSJC gave a valiant effort, but came out on the short end of another close set, once again losing 25-23 to wrap up the match for the Comets.

Cashlee Hullar had a team high 10 kills in the loss while Luann O'Kane added 9 kills and Kayley Stephens had 8.  Lannie Maffucci dished out 25 assists while Camryn Bootsma chipped in with 7 assists.  On defense it was O'Kane who led the way with 19 digs and a pair of solo blocks.  Cynthia Arango added 14 digs while Maffucci also reached double figures with 11.

The loss concludes the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division schedule for the Lady Eagles, they finished 4-4 in league play and are now 10-11 overall.  Palomar improved with the win to 6-13 on the season and 3-4 in PCAC-North matches.

MSJC has two regular season matches remaining against yet to be determined opponents from the PCAC-South in their end of the year crossover series.  Those matches will take place on Wednesday November 8th and Tuesday November 14th.  Times and locations will be announced this weekend.

MSJC's #5 Lannie Maffucci had 25 assists and 11 digs on Wednesday night, but the Lady Eagle volleyball team lost on "Sophomore Night" to visiting Palomar 3-1 in their final PCAC North contest of the year.  MSJC has two matches left in the regular season against PCAC South opponents, times and locations of those two matches will be announced Saturday.  (DeeAnn Bradley/MSJC).
