The MSJC women's volleyball team won an exciting five set match in their first home contest of the season as they defeated visiting San Diego Mesa College 3-2.
The Lady Eagles dropped the first set 25-21, before coming back to win the second and third sets by identical scores of 25-23. Mesa would rally to force a fifth set by taking the fourth 25-19, but in the end the Lady Eagles came out on top by taking the deciding game by a score of 15-13.
In a high energy tilt both teams made some very strong plays and there were many long rallies throughout the match. Sabrina Latteri was the star of the day for the Lady Eagles as she had 21 kills, 10 digs, and 5 service aces to aid in the victory. Latteri did have plenty of help as Dayanerrah Taoete added 12 kills and 8 digs while Hannah Schaffer knocked down 9 kills. Ashley Cork led the way on defense with 18 digs and Johannah Simon passed out a team high 39 assists.
The win was the second in a row for the Lady Eagles and evened their record at 1-1 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play. MSJC is 2-9 overall, while San Diego Mesa fell to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in PCAC action. The Lady Eagles travel to El Cajon on Friday to take on Grossmont College in a 6pm match.
