Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Wins PCAC Opener

The MSJC women's volleyball team opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play on Wednesday with a 3-0 sweep of College of the Desert.vballforCOD1-17.jpg

The Lady Eagles, playing in their first "home" match of the season at Paloma Valley HS, battled hard to pull out the first set 26-24.  The second and third sets were both also very closely contested with MSJC coming out on top with back to back 25-22 wins.

Lauren Robertson led the Lady Eagle offense on Wednesday with 12 kills, while Luann O'Kane added 10, and Cashlee Hullar had 9 kills.  Lannie Maffucci dished out 29 assists while fellow setter Camryn Bootsma had 13.  The MSJC defense was led by O'Kane who picked up a match high 26 digs.  Cynthia Arango (13), Natalie Gonzales (11), and Ashlyn Ferriera (10) all also reached double figures in digs.  Kayley Stephens had 5 of the Lady Eagles 10 block assists on the night.

The match was the first PCAC North match of the year for both team's and the win improved MSJC's overall season record to 7-7.  The Roadrunners are now also 7-7 on the year and are 0-1 in PCAC North action.  The Lady Eagles will once again play their home match Friday at Paloma Valley High School in Menifee.  Friday's match is against Mira Costa College, who enters the contest on Friday ranked #16 in the State.  The match at Paloma Valley will begin at 6 pm.


The MSJC volleyball team opened conference play on Wednesday with a 3-0 win over College of the Desert in a match played at Paloma Valley HS.  The Lady Eagles who improved to 7-7 on the season will host Mira Costa College on Friday at 6 pm.  Friday's match will also take place at Paloma Valley HS.  (DeeAnn Bradley/MSJC).
