MSJC Volleyball Celebrates Sophomores with a Sweep
The MSJC volleyball team celebrated Sophomore Night on Friday and came away with a three set sweep over visiting Palomar College.
The Lady Eagles came out fast as they took the first set 25-10. MSJC would continue to put on the pressure as they took the second set 25-17 and finished off the night with a third set win 25-12. MSJC was honoring seven sophomores in what was their final Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North contest of the season. Prior to the match a ceremony honored; Jordyn Kovich, Jamie Loerch, Adrianah Grajeda, Cashlee Hular, Cynthia Arango, Lannie Maffucci, and Arian Velasquez for their contributions to the program over the past two seasons.
As for the match itself Ruby Ruiz led the offense with 8 kills while Hullar added 7. Maffucci and Velasquez continued to be an impressive setting tandem as they totaled 15 and 17 assists in the match. Arango led the team in digs with 14 while Ruiz had 13.
The Lady Eagles improved to 19-4 overall with the win and they finished PCAC North play with a record of 8-2. The 8-2 mark was good enough for a second place finish just one win behind conference champion MiraCosta who concluded conference play at 9-1. MSJC will now finish the regular season with two cross-over matches against the top two teams from the PCAC South. Wednesday night the Lady Eagles will host PCAC South Champion San Diego Mesa at 5 pm and then on November 14th they will travel to San Diego City to take on the PCAC South second place Knights.
