The MSJC volleyball team won the first set on Wednesday night, but could not carry the momentum beyond as they lost a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference match at home to Southwestern 3-1.
The Lady Eagles won the first set by a score of 25-18, but in a back and forth battle in the second the Jaguars seized their opportunity by winning 26-24. Southwestern would ride the energy of the win in set two, to win the third 25-16 and then closed out the match by taking the fourth set 25-20.
Dayanerrah Taoete led the Lady Eagle offense with 15 kills while Mercedes Bree had 11, Sydney Church also had 7 kills on the night. Johanna Simon passed out 35 assists and Ashley Cork picked up a team high 21 digs.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles overall record on the season to 4-14, they are 3-6 in PCAC action. Southwestern improved to 5-10 and 3-6. Friday MSJC will travel to San Diego Mesa for a 5 pm match against the Olympians, before they return home next Wednesday to take on first place Grossmont. Next Wednesday's match will also begin at 5 pm.
