MSJC Volleyball Opens With Tough One on the Road
The MSJC women's volleyball team kicked off their season on Wednesday night and came away with a tough 3-0 loss to perennial state powerhouse Grossmont in a match played in El Cajon.
Grossmont jumped out to an early lead and won the first set 25-19. The Lady Eagles battled hard in the second set, but came up on the short end of a 25-23 score. The Lady Griffons, who last season reached the State Final Four, finished strong as they defeated MSJC 25-12 in the third and final set.
Two of MSJC's returning sophomores, Luann O'Kane and Lauren Robertson led the Lady Eagle offense as they both finished the night with 6 kills. O'Kane also had a team best 8 digs on defense. Sophomore setter Camryn Bootsma was credited with 14 assists.
The Lady Eagles, who are coming off the first play-off appearance in program history last season, are now 0-1 on the year. MSJC jumps right back into action on Friday when they travel to Victorville to take part in the Victor Valley College Tournament. The Lady Eagles are scheduled to play Ventura at 11:30 AM and Victor Valley at 1:30 PM.
