MSJC Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Wins

The MSJC women's volleyball team continued their fast start to the season as they picked up a pair of victories at Riverside City College as they defeated Citrus and RCC on the day.laurynpatttersonvballforRCC-Citrus-18.jpg

In their​ first match of the day the Lady Eagles started a little slowly as they lost the first set 20-25 to Citrus, but they would rally back to win three straight an earn the match victory 3-1.  MSJC did it in commanding fashion as they won the second set 25-14 followed by a 25-18 win in the third and closed it out with a 25-15 win in the fourth.  Lauryn Patterson led the way on offense with 13 kills while Iasia Bailey chipped in with 7 and Olivia Elliot added 6.  Ariana Velasquez had a team high 18 assists and Lannie Maffucci dished out 13.  Cynthia Arrango led the defensive effort with 25 digs and Ruby Ruiz picked up 15.

In the team's second match of the day the Lady Eagles started strong and never really looked back as they beat Riverside in straight sets with a trio of 25-19 wins.  Patterson once again led the team in kills, this time with 11 while Ruiz was next with 10.  Cashlee Hullar also contributed to the well balanced offense as she knocked down 8 kills and Jami Loerch had 6.  Maffucci and Velasquez each passed out 17 assists in the victory and Arrango had a team high 9 digs.

The two victories improve MSJC to 3-0 on the season.  The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday when they host a pair of matches at home.  MSJC will take on Imperial Valley Saturday at noon and then play Santiago Canyon at 4 pm on the San Jacinto Campus.

The MSJC volleyball team won two matches on Wednesday as they defeated Citrus 3-1 and Riverside 3-0.  MSJC's Lauryn Patterson #15 led the Lady Eagle offense with 24 kills in the two matches.  MSJC is now 3-0 on the season and will host Imperial Valley and Santiago Canyon on Saturday with the IVC match beginning at 12 pm and the contest with Santiago Canyon at 4 pm.  (DeeAnn Bradley/MSCJ).
