The MSJC women's volleyball team opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night by defeating visiting Palomar College in straight sets.
The Lady Eagles, who came into the night ranked #24 in the state, broke open the first set on back to back kills from Taylor Kushner that extended MSJC's lead from 18-15 to 20-15. From there MSJC went on to take set one 25-18. In the second set of the night state #14 ranked Palomar made a late run at the Lady Eagles but a kill from Iesha Leota ended a Comet rally and gave MSJC a 23-19 lead. After three consecutive points from Palomar, Kushner once again nailed back to back kills to end the set in the Lady Eagles favor at 25-22.
MSJC took control early in the third set and pushed their lead all the way to 15-6 on their way to an easy 25-16 win closing out the match.
Kushner finished the night with 16 kills while Leota had 10. Alissya Theis had a match high 36 assists and Mercedes Bree had 3 blocks for MSJC.
The victory for MSJC improved their overall record to 7-1 on the season while Palomar fell to 6-2. The Lady Eagles who are now 1-0 in PCAC play return to action on Friday when they travel to San Diego City College for a 5pm match against the Knights.
