The MSJC volleyball team won two of three matches on Saturday when they took part in the Imperial Valley College Tournament in Imperial.
The Lady Eagles started the day with a straight sets victory over East Los Angeles College. MSJC won 25-17, 25-22, and 29-27 behind 23 kills from Taylor Kushner. Meghan Bartko added six kills and setter Alissya Theis had a match high 38 assists. Sam Salcido led the way defensively with 15 digs while Kushner added 12 and Theis had 10.
In the second match of the day MSJC defeated the University Autonoma de Baja California in four sets. The Lady Eagles rallied back after losing the first set 21-25 to win the next three by scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-21. Kushner once again led the offense with 30 kills while Bartko added 14. Theis and Kriston Hilkey also had picked up 7 kills a piece. Theis had a season high 59 assists and Salcido was big on defense with 38 digs.
In their final match of the day the Lady Eagles ran into a very strong team from Arizona Western and fell in straight sets. AWC won 16-25, 19-25, and 10-25 for the sweep. Kushner picked up 14 kills in the match while Theis had 24 assists and Salcido had 21 digs. Katie Foster had 4 solo blocks and assisted on 5 others.
MSJC is now 3-1 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday night when they host San Bernardino Valley College. Wednesday's match on the MSJC campus will begin at 5 pm.
