Volleyball Team Falls in Dramatic Five Set Match
The MSJC women's volleyball team wrapped up their regular season on Wednesday with a tough 3-2 loss to San Diego Mesa.
The Lady Eagles dropped the first set 16-25, before rallying to take the second and third sets to move to the brink of victory. MSJC won the second 26-24 and the third 25-21, but the Olympians forced a fifth and deciding set after winning the fourth 17-25. In the fifth set the teams were tied at 13-13 until back to back points for Mesa finally decided the match.
Dayanerrah Taoete led the MSJC offense with 14 kills in the match while Luann O'Kane had 13 and Julia Balancier added 11. Setter Camryn Bootsma had a team best 20 assists and on defense Jeannie Hifo picked up 19 digs. Rozary Barrett added a pair of solo blocks and four block assists.
The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-10, while Mesa wrapped up their regular season at 15-11. MSJC was 5-3 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play for the year and finished in a tie for second place.
MSJC will find out their play-off fate later Thursday. The Lady Eagles are hoping to qualify for the CCCAA Southern California Regional Tournament that begins on Saturday.
