Volleyball Team Makes Quick Work of SBVC

The MSJC volleyball team dominated from start to finish on Friday night as they defeated visiting San Bernardino Valley College in straight sets to pick up a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division win.maffucci-loerchfroSBVC1-18.jpg

The Lady Eagles won the first set 25-11 to set the tone for the evening and then went on to pick up a 25-18 victory and a 25-12 win to close out the match in three sets.  Ruby Ruiz led a very balanced offensive attack for MSJC with 6 kills, Lauren Patterson added 5 and Iasia Bailey had 4.  Ariana Velazquez had 12 assists in the win while Lannie Maffucci had 11.  The Lady Eagle defense was also solid on the night as they picked up 7 solo blocks and 6 blocks assists in the match.  Jamie Loerch led the charge on defense with 2 solo and 2 block assists of her own, Ruiz had a match best 9 digs in the victory.

The win propelled MSJC to 14-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in PCAC North play while the Wolverines dropped to 0-16 and 0-4.  The Lady Eagles will be back in action twice this week, first traveling to San Marcos on Wednesday to take on Palomar and then returning home Friday when they host San Diego Miramar.  Both matches this week are set to begin at 5 pm.
