Volleyball Team Opens Season With a Sweep
The MSJC volleyball team got off to a fast start on Wednesday night in their season opener as they defeated visiting Southwestern College in straight sets.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 17-1 lead in the first set on their way to a 25-8 win. The second set was similar as MSJC jumped ahead 10-0 and 16-2 as they seized control of the match with a 25-6 win. The third set followed suit as MSJC won 25-10 to complete the sweep. MSJC trailed 2-1 in the third set it was the only time all night that the Lady Eagles trailed.
Lauryn Patterson had a strong debut as the freshman from Hemet High led the way with 11 kills. Ruby Ruiz added 6 kills and Adrianah Grajeda had 5 in the win. Ariana Velazquez had a team high 17 assists while Patterson and Valazquez also led the defense with 8 and 9 digs respectively.
The win gets MSJC off to a 1-0 start on the season. The Lady Eagles will return to action on Friday night when they host Antelope Valley at 6 pm.
