Volleyball Team Splits a Pair of Matches at Mesa Tourney
The MSJC volleyball team beat San Diego Mesa and then lost to Citrus College in a pair of matches played Friday at the Mesa Tournament held in San Diego.
The Lady Eagles won a thriller in their first match of the day as they defeated the host Mesa squad in five sets. The Olympians jumped ahead by easily taking the first set 25-15, but MSJC would come back to win the second 25-21 and then the third in dramatic fashion 27-25. Mesa found a way to force a fifth set though with another 25-15 win in the fourth before the Lady Eagles finally clinched the match by winning the fifth 15-12. Luann O'Kane had 14 kills in the victory while Lauren Robertson added 10. Camryn Bootsma passed out 36 assists while also helping on defense with 16 digs. O'Kane had a team high 19 digs while Kayley Stephens had 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists.
In the second match of the day MSJC could never get it going as they lost in straight sets to Citrus 3-0. The Lady Eagles had beaten the Owls 3-1 back on September 6th, but this time Citrus took control early and never looked back winning by scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-21. Robertson had a team high 5 kills while Ashlyn Ferriera had a team best 15 digs.
MSJC is now 6-5 on the season and will be back in action twice this week. Wednesday the Lady Eagles will travel to San Diego City for a 5 pm match and then on Friday the team will take on Los Angeles Harbor in LA at 6 pm.
