The MSJC volleyball team had a busy weekend as they played at San Diego City on Friday night and twice in Victorville on Saturday.
Friday night the Lady Eagles let a 2-0 lead slip away as they lost to San Diego City College 3-2 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference match. MSJC won the first set 25-21 and cruised to a second set win 25-15, before the Knights put together a strong comeback. SDCC would go on to win the third set 21-25, the fourth 24-26, and also take the fifth and deciding set 9-15. Taylor Kushner had 33 kills in the loss while Iesha Leota had 10. Alyssia Theis had 56 assists in the 5 set thriller to go along with 17 digs.
On Saturday MSJC traveled to Victorville to play in the Victor Valley Tournament where they played VVC and Glendale. In the first match of the day against Victor Valley the Lady Eagles suffered another tough 5 set loss, with the fifth and deciding set going to the Rams 15-12. Kushner once again led the offense with 36 kills while Meghan Bartko, Leota, and Katie Foster each had 5. Theis finished the match with 53 assists and Sam Salcido had a team high 30 digs. The Lady Eagles regrouped in their final match of the weekend to cruise past Glendale in straight sets 25-15, 25-15, and 25-22. Mercedes Bree had 6 kills and 3 blocks in the victory while Kushner had 12 kills and 6 aces.
After the three matches on the weekend the Lady Eagles are now 8-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference action. MSJC returns to the court on Wednesday October 1st when they travel to Imperial Valley for a PCAC match. Wednesday's match is set to begin at 5 pm.
Alyssia Theis had 137 assists in three matches over the weekend for the Lady Eagles as they beat Glendale and suffered two tough 5 set losses to San Diego City and Victor Valley. MSJC returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Imperial Valley.
