Volleyball Team Sweeps Past Southwestern
The MSJC volleyball team used a strong start on Friday night and easily cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Southwestern in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference match.
The Lady Eagles won the first set 25-9 to set the tone for the rest of the match. MSJC would go on to win the second 25-22 and the third 25-19.
Taylor Kushner led the offense with 27 kills while Iesha Leota had 8 and Meghan Bartko added 5. Alyssia Theis, fighting off an injury, had a match high 39 assists. The Lady Eagles defense was also strong as they had 8 solo blocks in the match led by three from Theis. Sam Salcido had a team high 21 digs while Kushner had 15 digs and Leota added 13.
The win improved the Lady Eagles to 11-3 on the season and 4-1 in PCAC play while Southwestern dropped to 0-11 and 0-6. MSJC has a big match on Wednesday night when they travel to El Cajon to take on Grossmont College at 6 pm. Grossmont enters the match ranked #3 in the state with a 14-0 record.
