The MSJC volleyball team continued their strong start to the season by beating Mt. San Antonio and Riverside on Friday at a tournament held at RCC.
The Lady Eagles started the day with a straight sets victory over Mt. SAC. Taylor Kushner had a huge match with 34 kills on 64 chances. Meghan Bartko added 5 kills and Kriston Hilkey had 3 as MSJC won by scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-14. Setter Alyssia Theis had 41 assists and 10 digs to help in the victory while Sam Salcido had a team high 20 digs to lead the defense.
MSJC continued their dominance in the second match of the day as they swept Riverside City College 25-21, 25-15, and 25-17. Kushner once again led the offense with 14 kills while five other players also recorded kills. Katie Foster and Iesha Leota had 5 a piece to lead the balanced offensive attack. Theis had 22 assists and 5 digs, and it was Kushner this time also leading the defense with 10 digs.
The Lady Eagles are now 6-1 on the season. MSJC returns to action next Wednesday September 24th when they host Palomar College in their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference opener. The match on the 24th is set to begin at 5 pm.
