Volleyball Team Wins Two at RCC Tourney
The MSJC women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Wednesday night as they defeated Riverside and Citrus in two matches played on the RCC Campus.
The Lady Eagles opened the afternoon by defeating the host Tigers in four sets. MSJC jumped out to an early lead winning the first 25-21, before Riverside was able to even the match in the second with a 25-19 win. The Lady Eagles would then seal the victory by winning a tight third set 25-23 and cruising to a fourth set victory 25-16. Luann O'Kane had a match high 16 kills for MSJC while Lauren Robertson knocked down 12. Kayley Stephens just missed double figures in kills with 9, while Lannie Maffucci had 37 assists. Ashlyn Ferriera led the defense with 20 digs.
In MSJC's second match of the day the Lady Eagles won again in four sets as they defeated the Citrus Owls. Like their first match MSJC took the first set from the Owls 25-21, before losing the second 25-22, and winning the third and fourth by scores of 25-15 and 25-21. Robertson had a team high 9 kills in the victory while O'Kane added 7. Maffucci once again did a nice job setting as she dished out 25 assists. Ferriera had a team high 23 digs on defense while Natalie Gonzales picked up 12. Maffucci and Robertson both also reached double figures in digs with 11 and 10 respectively.
The two wins on Wednesday improved the Lady Eagles record on the season to 4-2. MSJC will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Santiago Canyon for a 6 pm match.
