Volleyball Wins 2 of 3 on Labor Day Weekend

The MSJC volleyball team traveled to Imperial on Saturday and came home winning two of their three matches on the day.

In their opener the Lady Eagles won a close first set 26-24 over the host team Imperial Valley and then went on to make it a sweep as they won the second set 25-13 and the third 25-23.  A balanced offensive attack was led by Luann O'Kane and Alexxis Carrillo who each had 9 kills.  Lauren Robertson added 6 kills in the victory and Jade Bell had 5.  Camryn Bootsma passed out a match high 28 assists and on defense Jeannie Hifo picked up 21 digs.  Carrillo and Bell both had 2 solo blocks.

MSJC kept the momentum going in their second match of the day as they swept past East Los Angeles College; 25-23, 25-29, and 25-17.  This time O'Kane once again led the offensive attack as she collected 8 kills while Carrillo added 7.  Hifo had her second strong match of the day with 15 digs and 3 aces.  Bell and Naomi Miller both had a pair of blocks.

The Lady Eagles came up against a tough foe in their final match of the day and fell to Arizona Western in four sets.  In the match with AWC O'Kane had 7 kills as did Robertson.  Hannah Schaffer had a team high 10 assists and Hifo led the defense for the third straight match with 10 digs.

The Lady Eagles improved to 3-3 overall on the season with the two wins on Saturday.  MSJC will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Riverside Community College to take on the Tigers as well as Mt. San Antonio.  MSJC will play RCC at 5pm and Mt. SAC at 7.
