The MSJC women's volleyball team picked up a huge win on Wednesday night as they defeated College of the Desert in four sets on the road.
The win by the Lady Eagles pushed them two games ahead of Desert for second place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division standings and set up a big match on Friday against first place MiraCosta. MSJC will host MiraCosta on Friday night at 5 pm with a chance to move into a tie for first place. MSJC's only loss in PCAC North play this year was to MiraCosta when the two teams met in Oceanside back on October 10th.
Wednesday it was a solid start by MSJC that carried them to victory as they won the first two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-19. Desert would rally to take the third set 24-26 to avoid the sweep, but the Lady Eagles quickly regrouped and won the fourth 25-18 to close out the match.
Lauryn Patterson had a match high 14 kills to lead the MSJC offense, while Cashlee Hullar added 9 and both Iasia Bailey and Ruby Ruiz had 8 kills each. Lannie Maffucci and Ariana Velasquez each had 19 assists in the win. Ruiz added to her 8 kill night with a match high 21 digs as well as a solo block.
The win gives MSJC an overall record of 17-3 on the season and they improved to 6-1 in PCAC North matches, while Desert fell to 16-4 and 4-3.
