Fast Start Key to Lady Eagle Hoops Victory

The MSJC women's basketball team came out of the gates strong on Friday night as they cruised to an 80-27 win in Oceanside over Mira Costa College in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference ChristinaGrantformiracosta1-16.jpg

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the opening 3 and a half minutes on their way to a 39-4 advantage after the first quarter.  Nokomis Cabrera helped get the Lady Eagles going as she scored all nine of her points in the first 10 minute period.  MSJC's offense slowed down in the second quarter, but their defense remained strong as they led at halftime 50-7.  The Lady Eagles out scored Mira Costa 30-20 in the second half on their way to the victory.

Britney Thomas led a balanced MSJC offense on the night with 17 points and 9 rebounds.  Genaya Wilkinson added 11 points and 7 rebounds while Christina Grant scored 10 points and had 8 boards.  Sarina Johnson and Suzie Castro-Larsen both added 8 points and Crystal Malveaux passed out 6 assists as 11 of the 12 Lady Eagles who played in the contest got into the scoring column.

The win pushed the Lady Eagles record on the year to 21-0 overall and 6-0 in PCAC play, while Mira Costa is still looking for their first win of the year.  MSJC will be back in action on Wednesday when they host San Diego Mesa at 5 pm.  Mesa comes into that contest tied for second place in the conference with a PCAC mark of 5-1.
