Lady Eagle Basketball Back on Winning Track
The MSJC women's basketball team responded to having their 21 game winning streak snapped on Friday night with a bounce back home win Wednesday over MiraCosta 94-42.
The Lady Eagles struggled with turnovers in the opening five minutes, but were able to hold a 17-10 lead after the first period. In the second quarter the MSJC offense got going as they out scored the Spartans 30-12 to head to halftime with a 47-22 lead. The Lady Eagles continued to wear down MiraCosta in the second half as they finished the final 20 minutes with a 47-20 advantage to earn the final of 94-42.
Four MSJC players ended the night in double figures scoring led by Delacy Brown's game high 30 points. Brown also pulled down 9 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. Raena Lasley came off the bench to give the Lady Eagles a big offensive boost as she scored 16 points, including connecting on 4 three point baskets. Britney Thomas recorded her 23rd double double of the year despite having a tough shooting night as she ended the game with 12 points and a game high 17 rebounds. Kaila Gower also reached double figures in limited playing time due to foul trouble as she scored 11, going a perfect 5 for 5 from the field.
The win improved MSJC's season record to 24-2, they move to 5-1 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division play and are tied for first place with Palomar. MiraCosta fell to 15-7 overall on the season and 2-4 in PCAC North games.
The Lady Eagles travel to Palm Desert on Friday to take on College of the Desert in a 5 pm contest. MSJC will be back home next Wednesday February 14th when they celebrate Sophomore Night by hosting San Bernardino Valley in a 6 pm game.
