The MSJC women's basketball team got off to a slow start on Friday night at Southwestern and it cost them a chance at their third straight conference title losing 69-62.
The Lady Eagles came out very cold from the field falling behind 17-4 in the first 7 minutes of the game. MSJC would eventually settle in and cut the lead to five by halftime as they trailed 30-25 at the break. The Lady Eagles rallied to take the lead by as much as four with 8 minutes remaining in the game, but again saw their shooting go cold down the stretch. MSJC gave themselves a chance by out rebounding Southwestern 58-42, but shot just 33% from the field for the night.
Johnette Brown led the Lady Eagles offense with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Lailahni Tuaila had 18 points off the bench.
The loss dropped MSJC from a tie for first place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference and stopped MSJC's bid for a third straight conference title. The loss also ended an 11 game winning streak by MSJC. The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with an overall record of 24-5 and a PCAC mark of 12-2.
The Lady Eagles will find out the pairings of the Southern California Regional Play-Offs on Monday afternoon.
Lailahni Tuaila came off the bench Friday night to score 18 points for the MSJC women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Southwestern 69-62. MSJC finished the regular season 24-5 and will learn their play-off fate Monday afternoon.
