Lady Eagle Basketball Team Moves on to Regional Final
The MSJC women's basketball team dominated the first quarter on Saturday night as they cruised to an 81-46 win in the second round of the CCCAA State play-offs at home against Pasadena
The Lady Eagles seized control of the game from the start as they jumped out to a 16-0 lead on their way to a 23-2 lead after the first period. The Lancers would settle down in the second period and cut the MSJC lead to 36-19 at the half. MSJC reestablished their control though in the third as they out scored PCC 21-12 to lead 57-31 heading into the final period. The Lady Eagles kept up the pressure in the final 10 minutes to pull away for the victory.
PCAC and CCCAA Southern California Player of the Year, Britney Thomas led the Lady Eagle offense with 26 points in 24 minutes of action. Delacy Brown also finished in double figures with 17 points, including 12 in the second half to make sure the Lancers could not get back into striking distance. Kaila Gower added 9 points and 8 rebounds, while Carla Johnson had 7 points and 5 assists. Madeline Morrow was also solid on the evening with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists.
With the win the Lady Eagles advance to the Southern California Regional Finals on Saturday night when they host El Camino at 7 pm. MSJC is now 28-2 on the season while Pasadena finishes their season at 18-14. El Camino comes into Saturday's game with a record of 21-6.
