Lady Eagle Basketball Team Rides First Half to Victory
The MSJC women's basketball team jumped out to a 41-18 halftime lead on their way to a 69-56 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference win over visiting Grossmont College on Wednesday night.
The Lady Eagles got out of the gates quickly as Sarina Johnson scored 6 of her 10 points in the first six minutes of the game and DeShea Wilkes hit 2 of her game high 5 three point baskets to give MSJC the early advantage. Wilkes would finish the game with a team high 18 points while Lailahni Tuaila also came off the bench to add 10 points. Erin Stanford had a solid floor game at the point scoring 7 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists. The Lady Eagles had 16 assists on 22 made field goals. Christina Grant also continued her solid play with a game high 11 rebounds to go with her 6 points.
The victory kept the Lady Eagles in a first place tie in the PCAC and improved their overall record on the season to 22-4. MSJC is 10-1 in conference play while Grossmont fell to 10-14 overall and 7-4 in the PCAC. The Lady Eagles will travel to MiraCosta for a 7 pm game on Friday night. MSJC's final regular season home game will be next Wednesday February 18th when they host San Diego Mesa at 5 pm.
