Lady Eagle Basketball Team Wins at Grossmont

The MSJC women's basketball team raced out to a big halftime lead on Friday and were able to cruise home with an 88-50 win over Grossmont in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game in El NokomisCabrera-gmont2-16.jpg

The Lady Eagles got off to the fast start behind their transition game and full court press as they led 25-5 after the first quarter and 43-12 at halftime.  MSJC would eventually build the lead to as much as 50 in the third quarter.  Three Lady Eagles reached double figures in scoring and 11 players had at least 3 points for MSJC in the victory.  Britney Thomas had a team high 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds in just 14 minutes of action, while Sarina Johnson added 13 points and 6 assists.  Nokomis Cabrera came off the bench to add 9 points, and Suzie Castro-Larsen pulled in 10 rebounds.

The victory kept MSJC in a tie for first place in the PCAC with two games remaining in the regular season.  The Lady Eagles improved their record to 26-1 overall on the season and 11-1 in conference play.  Grossmont fell to 8-17 and 5-7.  MSJC will play their final regular season home game on Wednesday when they host Mira Costa College.  Wednesday's tip-off is set for 5 pm.  The Lady Eagles will wrap up the regular season on Friday when they travel to San Diego Mesa.
