Lady Eagle Sophs Set Record in Regular Season Finale
The MSJC women's basketball team celebrated Sophomore Night on Friday with an impressive 91-53 win over visiting San Diego City in a PCAC North-South crossover game.
The Lady Eagles built a first quarter lead of 27-10 and expanded it to 47-17 by halftime on their way to their 25th win of the season. Sophomores Randi Johnson and Crystal Malveaux each had double doubles for MSJC. Johnson scored a game high 18 points and pulled in 12 rebounds while Malveaux added 15 points and 12 boards to go along with a game high 7 assists. Delacy Brown also reached double digits in scoring for the Lady Eagles as she scored 13 points while also grabbing 4 rebounds and making 4 assists. Marissa Williams came up just short of double figures with 9 points while Nokomis Cabrera added 8.
MSJC honored sophomores; Johnson, Malveaux, Cabrera, Kristian Dewitt, and Britney Thomas prior to Friday night's contest. Dewitt is a transfer from Odessa Junior College in Texas and Thomas has been injured since the third game of the season. The trio of Johnson, Malveaux, and Cabrera set the school record on Friday as they were part of their 55th win as members of the Lady Eagle program. They were all part of a team that finished last season 30-2 and are now currently 25-4 on the season.
MSJC will take their 25-4 record into the play-offs this week. Pairings for CCCAA Southern California Regional will be announced on Monday.
