Lady Eagles Get Defensive in Victory at SD Mesa
The MSJC women's basketball team made up for a tough night of shooting on Friday with some strong defense as they won a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game on the road at San Diego Mesa 50-25.
The Lady Eagles overcame a slow start on offense to lead at the half 23-11. MSJC kept up the strong defensive effort in the second and held the Olympians to just one point in the final 10 minutes of the game to pull away for the victory. Mesa managed just 8 field goals in the contest.
Sarina Johnson was the only Lady Eagle to reach double figures on the night as she scored a game high 17 points. Lailahni Tuaila added 7. Christina Grant and Johnette Brown helped MSJC secure the win with their work on the boards as MSJC out rebounded Mesa 50-25. Grant had a game high 8 rebounds while Brown pulled down 7.
The win improved the Lady Eagles record to 17-4 on the season and 5-1 in PCAC action, while Mesa fell to 4-13 overall and 2-4 in league games. MSJC will return home on Wednesday when they host Southwestern in a 5 pm game.
