Lady Eagles Overcome Poor Shooting to Win at Mira Costa

The MSJC women's basketball team moved to 2-0 in conference play on Friday night as they won on the road at Mira Costa 88-64.
The Lady Eagles struggled from the field on the evening shooting just 38% going 35 for 92 from the field and just 3 of 15 from three-point range but found a way to come away with the victory. The key to the game ended up being the Lady Eagles advantage on the glass as they outrebounded the Spartans 68-39 on the evening. MSJC led by just 2 at the end of the first quarter and by 8 at the half before finally pulling away in the fourth quarter.
MSJC's offense was led by Britney Thomas who had a monster game statistically with 25 points and 23 rebounds including 12 offensive boards, she also had 6 blocked shots. Kaila Gower also turned in a double double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Delacy Brown had 18 points for the Lady Eagles and Carla Johnson provided a spark off the bench scoring 14.
With the victory MSJC improved to 21-1 overall and 2-0 in PCAC North play while Mira Costa dropped to 1-1 in conference play and are now 14-4 overall. The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they take on College of the Desert in a home game set to tip off at 5 pm. Wednesday's game is part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The men's game is scheduled for 7 pm Wednesday night.
