Lady Eagles Pick up Win Over Mesa
The MSJC women's basketball team completed the first round of Pacific Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night with an 88-37 home win against visiting San Diego Mesa.
The Lady Eagles opened the game by taking a 32-15 lead after the first quarter and then used some solid defense the rest of the way to secure the victory. MSJC had a 49-25 halftime lead and came out of the locker room to out score the Olympians 22-5 in the third period.
Britney Thomas had a monstrous first half as she scored 28 of her game high 30 points in the first 20 minutes, she also grabbed 12 rebounds in the game. Genaya Wilkinson responded to making her first start of the season with a double double as she scored 11 points and pulled down a game high 13 boards. Randi Johnson and Nokomis Cabrera each hit double figures off the bench as Johnson had 12 and Cabrera 11. Sarina Johnson added 9 points in the victory and point guard Crystal Malveaux dished out 8 assists.
The win pushes the Lady Eagles record to 22-0 overall on the season and 7-0 in PCAC play. Mesa falls to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the conference. MSJC will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Chula Vista for a 7 pm game against Southwestern.
