Lady Eagles Ride Strong Second Half to Victory

The MSJC women's basketball team shook off a bad start Wednesday to defeat Rio Hondo 83-74 in the Lady Eagles first conference home game of the year.Brandie McCann

MSJC went into the locker room trailing 41-33 after 13 first half turnovers. The Lady Eagles were able to right the ship in the second half and quickly got back in the game taking their first lead of the second half with just over 15 minutes to play. MSJC then relied on some solid second half shooting and solid work on the glass to bring home the victory.

Danielle Smith had a big night for the Lady Eagles scoring 33 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Brandie McCann added 19 points and 7 rebounds while Nicole Villalobos had a double double with 12 points and 10 boards.

The victory moved the Lady Eagles to 1-1 in Foothill Conference play and 14-5 overall while Rio Hondo's record fell to 16-4 overall and 0-2 in league play. MSJC will face it's third straight ranked opponent when they travel to Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday to take on the state's 10th ranked team Chaffey. MSJC is currently ranked #13 in the state. Tip-off is set for 1 pm in the Chaffey Gymnasium.
