Lady Eagles to Host Cypress Wednesday in Regional Semi-Finals

The MSJC women's basketball team advanced to the CCCAA Southern California Regional semi-finals with a win over Citrus Saturday night, and now will host Cypress Wednesday at 7 pm.CrystalMalveauxforcypresspreview-16.jpg

The Lady Eagles beat Citrus Saturday 78-66 to improve to 29-1 on the season while Friday night Cypress defeated San Bernardino Valley 87-77 to move their record to 24-6.  MSJC is the #2 seed in the Southern California Region while the Chargers are the #7.  Cypress was originally seeded #6, but were moved to seven due to conference conflicts.  MSJC was the co-champion of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference during the regular season, while the Chargers won the Orange Empire Conference crown.

MSJC is led by Southern California State Player of the Year Britney Thomas who had 21 points 13 rebounds and 6 assists in Saturday's second round victory.  Second Team All State guard Sarina Johnson added 11 points in the Lady Eagles win over Citrus as did Nokomis Cabrera.  Cypress had three players score in double figures in their win over San Bernardino led by Dominique Culhno with 22 and Alyssa Movchan who had 20.  Third Team All State forward Erika Nilsen had 8 points and 7 rebounds in the Chargers victory.

The winner of Wednesday's game will take on the winner of the Pasadena and East Los Angeles game being played at East LA.  The winners of Wednesday's games will meet on Saturday March 5th at the highest remaining seed's home gym.  Wednesday's game on the San Jacinto Campus is set to tip-off at 7 pm.
