MSJC Women Beat Mesa, Win PCAC Title
The MSJC women's basketball team held off a strong effort from San Diego Mesa on Friday night to win on the road 85-67 and claim the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship.
The Lady Eagles trailed after the first quarter 22-20 and led by just four at the half 37-33, before slowly pulling away in the second half capped off by out scoring the Olympians 25-13 in the fourth quarter for the victory. Christina Grant had a monster game for MSJC as she scored a team high 21 points and pulled in a game high 17 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive end. Sarina Johnson added 18 points in the win while Britney Thomas had 12 points and 8 rebounds despite foul trouble that limited her to 16 minutes of playing time. Crystal Malveaux had a very strong all around game as she scored 10 points, grabbed 8 boards, and passed out 6 assists. Genaya Wilkinson came off the bench to grad 14 rebounds in the win.
The victory clinched the PCAC championship for MSJC, they will share the title withe Palomar, but do hold the tie-breaker advantage for play-off purposes. The conference championship was the Lady Eagles third in the past four years. MSJC finishes the regular season with an overall record of 28-1 and a PCAC mark of 13-1, Mesa fell to 12-10 overall with the loss and wrapped up conference play at 10-4.
MSJC will find out their seeding and schedule for the CCCAA State play-offs Monday afternoon. This will mark the Lady Eagles 10th straight trip to the post season.
