MSJC Women Come Up Just Short at No. 7 Chaffey
The MSJC women's basketball team had a couple of chances late to defeat Chaffey the state's 7th ranked team, but came up short Wednesday night as they fell to the Panthers 77-72 in Rancho Cucamonga.
Tina Fantroy, the leading scorer in the Foothill Conference, led the Lady Eagles offense with a season high 31 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Aishah Pullum added a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Faith Fantroy had 9 points and 8 assists for the Lady Eagles.
MSJC trailed by three at the half and the game would stay close throughout as neither team had a lead of more than six points in the second half. Two missed three point attempts late in the game sealed the Lady Eagles fate as they were forced to foul and the Panthers made their free throws down the stretch.
The loss drops MSJC, currently ranked #14 in the state to 20-7 on the season and 7-5 in Foothill Conference action. Chaffey improved to 22-4 overall and 10-1 in conference play. The Lady Eagles finish the regular season with a pair of home game next week. MSJC hosts Cerro Coso on Wednesday and Antelope Valley on Saturday February 18th.
