MSJC Women Hold on For Win Over Palomar

The MSJC women's basketball team led by 10 points with four minutes left on Wednesday night and then had to hold on for a 59-58 win over visiting Palomar in a Pacific Coast Athletic
Conference game.

The Eagles and the Comets played a defensive first half with neither team able to get their offenses going and they went to the locker room tied 22-22.  The third quarter was a little more exciting as MSJC was able to build a four point lead out scoring Palomar 23-19 in the third.  The Lady Eagles built the lead to 55-45 with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter, but then struggled from the free throw line down the stretch and Palomar was able to close the gap.

Britney Thomas scored all of her team high 14 points in the second half to lead MSJC, she also hauled in 15 rebounds.  Sarina Johnson added 13 points and 9 boards while Christina Grant had a huge rebounding night as she collected 18 boards and also scored 9 points.  Crystal Malveaux passed on 6 assists for the Lady Eagles.

The win pushed MSJC's record to 18-0 on the season and 3-0 in the PCAC, they are currently ranked #1 in Southern California.  Number five ranked Palomar falls to 12-4 and 2-1.  MSJC returns to action on Friday when they travel to San Diego City for a 5 pm contest.
