MSJC Women Pick Up Big Win at Grossmont

The MSJC women's basketball team finished strong on Wednesday night to defeat Grossmont 83-73 in El Cajon, to remain in a first place tie in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.tamgmont.jpg

The Lady Eagles overcame a 3 point halftime deficit to defeat the Griffons behind a season high 30 points from Tamara Herring.  The Lady Eagles took the lead for good with 8:13 to go in the game when Cora Lopez scored on a turn around jumper from the left block.  On the next possession MSJC pushed the lead out to five on a three point play by Erin Stanford and never let Grossmont get closer than four after that.

Herring also had 6 rebounds to go with her game high 30 points.  Herring's 30 points included a school record 8 three pointers.  Lopez finished the game with 18 points and a game high 17 rebounds.  DeShea Wilkes also hit double figures with 12 points and Sarai Ware had 4 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in the victory.

The win improved MSJC's record on the season to 20-6 and 9-2 in PCAC play.  The Lady Eagles have now won at least 20 games for 8 straight seasons.  MSJC is currently tied for first place in the conference with Southwestern with 3 games left in the regular season.  The Lady Eagles return to action on Friday when they host Mira Costa at 5 pm.  The MSJC men's team will play their final regular season game immediately following the Lady Eagles game Friday.
