MSJC Women Pick Up Road Win at Southwestern
The MSJC women's basketball team took control in the second quarter Friday night on their way to a 103-45 win over Southwestern in a PCAC crossover game played in Chula Vista.
The Lady Eagles took a 20-10 lead after the first period and then seized control of the game in the second quarter as they out scored the Jaguars 35-8 in the stanza to lead 55-18 at the half. MSJC continued to increase the lead in the second half on their way to the road victory.
The Lady Eagles used a balanced scoring attack as five MSJC scorers reached double figures and 11 of the 12 players who played in the contest had at least 2 points. Delacy Brown led the way with 28 points, she also had 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Kristian Dewitt had 18 points in the victory. Nokomis Cabrera came off the bench to add 12 points while Kaila Gower had 11, and Crystal Malveaux finished with 10 points. Cabrera also led the team with a game high 8 rebounds.
The win improved the Lady Eagles record on the season to 18-2 while Southwestern fell to 8-9. MSJC will now play 8 straight games in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division, before wrapping up the season with one last crossover game. Division play begins Wednesday when MSJC heads to San Marcos for a showdown with Palomar College. MSJC is ranked #4 in the most recent CCCAA Southern California Regional poll while Palomar is currently 3rd. The game on Wednesday is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, with the women's game starting at 5 and the men to follow at 7 pm.
