MSJC Women Roll Past Bakersfield
The MSJC women's basketball team got off to a fast start on Saturday night and kept it going as they cruised to a non-conference road win at Bakersfield 109-39.
The Lady Eagles built a 26-8 lead after the first quarter on the strength of a strong start from Britney Thomas who scored 14 points in the first period. MSJC would continue to extend the lead as they went into the halftime break ahead 59-24. The third and fourth periods provided much of the same as the Lady Eagles shared the ball well on offense and played an impressive half court man to man defense on their way to the victory.
Five Lady Eagles reached double figures in scoring and all 13 players who suited up for the game had at least two points. Thomas led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds in just 17 minutes of playing time. Carla Johnson added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Eagles while Delacy Brown had 16 and both Raena Lasley and Kaila Gower had 11. The win improves the Lady Eagles record on the season to 9-1 overall. MSJC will return to action on Thursday when they begin play in the Desert Winter Classic hosted by College of the Desert. The Lady Eagles open the tournament with a 1 pm game against Victor Valley.
