MSJC Women Roll Past Mira Costa on Sophomore Night
The MSJC women's basketball team celebrated Sophomore Night on Wednesday by defeating visiting Mira Costa College 72-32 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference game.
The Lady Eagles built leads of 18-8 after the first quarter and 46-16 at halftime to put the game out of reach. Britney Thomas had a double double in the win as she scored a game high 22 points and pulled down a team high 14 rebounds. Sophomore Christina Grant also posted a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while fellow sophomore Genaya Wilkinson just missed one with 10 points and 9 rebounds. MSJC point guard Crystal Malveaux dished out 8 assists in the victory.
The Lady Eagles made up for a poor shooting night (33-91) by grabbing a season high 72 rebounds in the game including 33 at the offensive end. Wednesday marked the final regular season home game for five MSJC sophomores; Sarina Johnson (Hemet HS), Grant (Perris HS), Wilkinson (San Jacinto HS), Suzie Castro-Larsen (Riverside Notre Dame), and Lauren Morrison (Riverside King).
The win moved MSJC's season record to 27-1 overall they are 12-1 in PCAC games, while Mira Costa remained winless on the year. The Lady Eagles will wrap up the regular season on Friday when they travel to San Diego Mesa for a 7 pm game.
