MSJC Women Score Big Win Over MiraCosta
The MSJC women's basketball team picked up a big win on Friday night as they defeated visiting MiraCosta 100-76 in a key PCAC North match up.
The Lady Eagles and the Spartans both had their offenses going early as MSJC took the lead at the end of the first quarter 31-22. MSJC was able to extend the lead to 61-41 by halftime. The Lady Eagles had their best shooting day of the season by far as they connected on 42 of 66 shots from the field in the contest to shoot 63%. MSJC was able to hold off a very strong Spartan squad in the second half out scoring MiraCosta 22-21 in the third and 17-14 in the final period for the win.
Britney Neely recorded the first triple double of the season for any MSJC player as she finished with 13 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in the game. Alyssa Walton and Haylei Janssens combined to go 22 of 28 shooting from the floor as Walton finished with 26 points and Janssens 25. Sharonda Edwards also added a double double for the Lady Eagles with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Madeline Gray also reached double figures in scoring with 12.
The win improves MSJC to 21-6 overall on the season they are now 5-0 in the PCAC North. MiraCosta fell to 15-7 overall and 2-3 in league play. MSJC has just two regular season games remaining as they travel to San Marcos on Friday night to take on Palomar at 5 pm. Palomar will come into that contest with a record of 20-6 and 4-1 in the PCAC North. The Lady Eagles final regular season game of the year will be Friday February 22nd when they host College of the Desert at 5 pm.
MSJC's Britney Neely #5 recorded the team's first triple double of the season on Friday night as she scored 13 points, dished out 12 assists, and grabbed 11 rebounds in the team's 100-76 win over visiting MiraCosta.
