MSJC Women Use Strong First Half in Victory

The MSJC women's basketball team started fast and built a commanding halftime lead on their way to a 79-48 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference victory over visiting Grossmont on Wednesday Genaya-16gmont-1.jpg

The Lady Eagles used a full court press for a 10 minute stretch in the first and second quarters that enabled them to take a 54-12 halftime lead over the Griffons.  MSJC out scored Grossmont 26-6 in the first period and 28-6 in the second.  The Lady Eagles finished the night shooting 53% from the field overall and 54% from beyond the three point line.  MSJC also out rebounded the Griffons 51-35 in the victory.

Britney Thomas led the Lady Eagles offense with 22 points and also grabbed 8 rebounds.  Sarina Johnson added 17 points, making 4 of 5 three point shots.  Genaya Wilkinson came off the bench to add 9 points and 7 rebounds, she also blocked 3 shots, while Suzie Castro-Larsen added 8 points and 6 boards.  Point guard Crystal Malveaux dished out 9 assists for the second straight game.

The win improved the Lady Eagles record on the season to 20-0 overall and 5-0 in PCAC action, while Grossmont fell to 5-12 and 2-2.  With the victory MSJC has now won at least 20 games in 10 straight seasons.  The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Mira Costa for a 5 pm game.
