MSJC Women Win Final Tune Up for Conference
The MSJC women's basketball team won their final game before opening conference play as they picked up a home win Friday night over visiting Southwestern 93-28.
The Lady Eagles raced out to a 32-8 lead after the first period and then out scored the Jaguars 31-2 in the second to hold a commanding 63-10 lead at the half. The third period was much of the same as MSJC outscored Southwestern 19-2 and led 82-12 after 30 minutes.
Four Lady Eagles finished the night in double figures scoring led by Delacy Brown who had a game high 22 points on 9 of 13 shooting from the field. Britney Thomas had a dominate game with 19 points, 17 rebounds, 7 blocks, and 4 assists in the victory. Carla Johnson came off the bench to add an early spark for MSJC as she scored 12 points off the bench and Raena Lasley added 11. Octavia Williams scored 9 for the Lady Eagles and Kaila Gower finished with 8. MSJC out rebounded their opponents on the night 61 to 26.
The win improved the Lady Eagles to 19-1 on the season while Southwestern dropped to 8-10. MSJC has now set up a showdown with Palomar on Wednesday January 17th at 5 pm in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division opener for both teams. Palomar will come to the Eagles gym with a perfect 19-0 record. The Comets enter the game as the State and So. Cal #1 ranked team in the latest CCCWBCA poll while MSJC will enter the contest ranked #2 in So. Cal and #3 in the State. Tip-off Wednesday is set for 5 pm, with a men's game to follow at 7.
MSJC's Carla Johnson was one of four Lady Eagles to score in double figures on Friday night as the women's basketball team beat visiting Southwestern 93-28 in a PCAC cross-over game. The Lady Eagles currently ranked #2 in So Cal and #3 in the State will take on #1 ranked Palomar Wednesday night at home with tip-off set for 5 pm.
